Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Sort ("Sort," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Sort service — including our website, web application, desktop app, and the Sort – Read Later browser extension (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. You can sign in using a passwordless magic link or an email and password. We use Supabase, our authentication and database provider, to manage accounts and securely store this information.
Content you save. The Service stores the data you create and curate, including the feeds you subscribe to, articles and pages you save to your reading list (their URLs, titles, and associated metadata), your read/unread state, and your preferences and settings.
Browser extension data. When you use the Sort – Read Later extension, saving a page sends that page's URL and title to your Sort account so it appears in your reading list. The extension only acts when you explicitly click its icon or use its keyboard shortcut. It does not run automatically on the pages you visit, does not track your browsing history, and does not read the content of pages you do not save. A connection token and local preferences are stored in your browser's extension storage so you stay connected.
Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never stored on Sort's servers. We retain a Stripe customer identifier and subscription status so we can manage your billing and access.
Usage and diagnostic data. We use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate, privacy-friendly usage of the Service, and Sentry to capture error and crash diagnostics that help us fix problems. This data is used to operate and improve the Service.
How we use your information
- To provide and operate the Service, including syncing your feeds, saved items, and read state across your devices.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To process payments and manage subscriptions.
- To process and refresh feeds and extract readable content (some processing runs on our backend infrastructure, including AWS Lambda).
- To monitor, debug, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To communicate with you about your account, security, and important Service updates.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your data for purposes unrelated to providing and improving the Service.
How your information is shared
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Sort, and only as needed to provide the Service:
- Supabase — authentication and database storage.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Vercel — hosting and aggregate analytics.
- Sentry — error and performance monitoring.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — backend processing such as feed refresh and content extraction.
These providers act as our data processors and are bound by their own security and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Sort and its users.
Data storage and security
Your account and content data are stored in our infrastructure provided by Supabase and AWS. All communication with the Service is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data, except where we must retain certain records to comply with legal, tax, or accounting obligations.
Your choices and rights
- You can view, edit, and remove your saved items and feeds at any time within the app.
- You can update your account details or change your authentication method.
- You can disconnect the browser extension from its options page, which clears the locally stored token, and uninstall it at any time.
- You can cancel your subscription, and you can request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
- Depending on your location, you may have additional rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise these, contact us using the details below.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
International users
Sort and its service providers may process and store your information in countries other than where you live. By using the Service, you consent to such processing in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service.
